It is amazing to me, how each day of the week gets an opportunity to be celebrated as sacred, throughout the Akan bosome (month) cycle. We do know that each day of the week walks with its own unique energy allowing people to, for example, assess their personalities based on their day of birth. In Akan culture one of the names of a person is their ‘day’ name. On the Akan nnabuo (calendar) Fofie is celebrated on a Friday at 40 – 42 day intervals. The celebration follows the pattern of most other sacred days where we pause to reflect on our spiritual lives, venerate our ancestors and dwell in community. At Sankofie we honour Fofie by attend to our traditional rituals and prayers in the morning. In the evening we invite ones and ones to participate in conversations on relationships where man and woman are the main players.
