Greeting the New Year

Greeting 2023!!!

Saturday, December 31, 2022 – Sunday, January 1, 2023

It is that time again when we gather to review and reflect as we bid the old year goodbye and make way for the new year and all its possibilities.  For those of us who made it through 2022 there is a need to give much thanks, a motivation to be in gratitude for health and strength and daily food and a necessity to recognise and compile the lessons taught to us in and by 2022 so as to position them to assist us in the coming year.  Each year, though just another year, is special.  It enters with its own drums and its own drumbeats to direct our steps in the dance of life.  So even as we gather at Sankofie, (by invitation), to 'consida wi consideration,' let us greet the ancestors, reflect, reason and examine the tremendous learnings of the soon to be old year and with joyful spirits, let us welcome together yet another New Year and avail ourselves of the guidance of spirit to navigate this space and time.  Sunrise will meet us, and all who may wish to join us, in ceremony at Wickie Wackie Beach, greeting grandfather sun on his first visit for 2023, giving honour to the spirits of the oceans and our ancestors who all crossed these waters to make ‘home’ here in Jamaica.   As is customary, if you are able, please bring thanksgiving gifts to pay tribute to the ancestors (your choice of items), Baba Esu (3 items i.e. rum, candy, chocolate, money, corn) and 7 different fruits, flowers and molasses to greet and thank our faithful deities Yemonja, Olokun, Opo Abena and others, for journeying with us, lending us their strength and giving us their blessings.
