Akↄm

January 23, 2022

This Sunday was Akwasidae and so we had a joyful Akↄm celebrating life and all that it entails.   The morning started early with libations, songs, dancing and offerings to greet, praise and thank our ancestors and deities.  At our usual time others joined and to the sounds of the drums and bells we sang and danced some more.  As our spirits got more and more elated we were pleased to welcome and greet Nana Sankofa who blessed us with his scintillating presences and profound messages. It is not possible to capture the energy of the Akↄm space or the fullness of the conversations that occur, however we are venturing to share some points for you to ponder and see how they may be of benefit.

Nana reminded us that:

  • Each day has a different vibration
  • We shouldn’t grovel and beg God. We should have a healthy relationship with God and stand up and play a role in that relationship.
  • He asked us if we don’t exist, does God exist? He then further went on to explain that because of God, we exist and in turn, our veneration and worship reinforces the existence of God
  • We should not do wrong to anyone as we never know to whom we are doing wrong and so the consequences could be more than we are prepared to bare.

Nana Sankofa said that men should listen to the women more.  He said that in the intimate relationship of the man and the woman the man needs to listen more.  To listen is to open not only the physical and/or mental ear but also the spiritual ear.  Men should listen to mothers, sisters, aunties, old women, young women etc. as the women carry wisdom very easily and naturally.  If you dress a situation with the wisdom of the women added to the wisdom of the man it will be well and fully dressed.

Nana Sankofa mentioned that we should continue our conversation on spiritual food which we had started recently to look at food and its impacts on the mind, body spirit.

Akↄm closed with a conversation in which questions were asked, messages brought were further examined, persons shared how messages applied to and provided guidance to their lives.  Prayer was also discussed from the perspective of how the relationship with God allows prayers to ‘move mountains’ when that relationship is sound and all ‘contracts’ that underpin it are being held sacred.   When we pray we should be willing to participate in the fulfilling of the prayer and confidently prepare to receive the outcomes from those prayers.

A brief mention was made of mutable and immutable energies.  Nana's grandmother told her she should not swear and she realised that it has to do with impacts based on the use of these energies.  The question was asked as ‘how do you make yourself so that no matter what, your prayers get to where they need to go?’

As we closed we were reminded to be responsible for what we put into and what comes out of our thoughts, words, actions.
